Tom Jordan Remembers Water Balloon “Greeting Cards” and Living Without a Rival

Thank you to Tom Jordan ’81 for sharing his responses to our recent questions and answers.

What is your favorite Beta tradition? Why?

Sending water balloon “greeting cards” to the Pi Phi house and maybe watching “The Streak” from the rooftop with Tom Wittich ’81.

What do you miss most about attending Ohio State?
My academic studies.  (For real … Tom really said that.)

In what ways is the fraternity experience still relevant for today’s young man?
Great bonding and meeting a group of people with similar interests; these friends last a lifetime!!

Which fraternity was your top rival on campus? How is Beta better than or different from this group?
There were none. We were the best…looking down on the rest.

What is your Ohio State football game ritual? Do you go to the games? Watch with friends?
I take the family when possible. We tailgate with Ike and the Beta crew.

What role does leadership play in a man’s life?
Leadership means everything to me. That role makes you understand the importance of showing today’s youth the proper way to conduct oneself and what the value of ethics & honesty really means.

For those brothers who are tech savvy in all aspects of the social network, imagine going through initiation again as a user of Twitter.  What 140 characters would you tweet to describe the experience?
I’m in disbelief. Not buying into the scheme…thank heavens it’s over.
