Motorcycle Burial at Michigan DX

During the fundraising effort we came across many stories. One story of note was the burial ceremony of a motorcycle on the grounds of Delta Chi in 1981.

Mark Dunning ’84 wrote an article about the event which is included for your perusal. Included are pictures from this solemn event. “Pode” that the article refers to is Greg Roda ’83. Other members taking part in the burial were Mark Dunning ’84, Jim Fuger ’82, Steve Hook ’82, Tim Luker ’82, Andy McKewan ’84, Jim Slawson ’82, Mark Dunning’s youngest brother and a next door neighbor.

It is of note, that the contractors of the new building were told of this event and to be on the alert when building, but the cycle was not found during construction. Whether the cycle will haunt the new building, only time will tell.

Greg Roda (L)  pictured above with Andy McKewan (R) says it took him about a week to dig the hole since he did it in the morning and tried not to create much hype.   He threw the first dirt on the bike, but then pretended to be too weak to participate, in reality partaking of the tequila.   Jim Slawson claims there was also an empty bottle of Tequila buried alongside the motorcycle.
