Beta Legacy Robert Beattie ‘02 on Enjoying Life Before The Real World Sets In

Thanks to Robert Beattie ’02 for participating in this Q&A.

Why did you join Beta over other fraternities?
I had a legacy, as my Grandfather was a Beta at Kenyon College.

What song best defines your college experience?
Carmen Ohio. “Time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship, OHIO.”

How did Theta Delta help make you into the man you are today?
The guys, who I still talk to and hang out with, guided me in the right direction.

What role does leadership play in a man’s life?
It’s huge. Leadership makes you who you are as a husband, a father, and as a friend. Everyone likes a leader and no one likes a follower.

Tell us about your favorite tradition.
I loved Michigan week at the house. We knew how to entertain everyone.

If you were walking onto the Ohio State campus as a young freshman, what advice would you give to the younger you?
GO TO CLASS! STUDY HARDER! Enjoy your time as a student because the real world will always be there and you have the rest of your life to be a model citizen.

Robert lives in Cincinnati and reports that he and his wife of eight years, Tami, had their first child in 2011. Landon Robert Beattie “will be a future Beta, and hopefully a Theta Delta.”
