Delta Chi Wins Sheepskin on the Hoof

Submitted by Keith Hellems ’62 During the fundraising campaign I had the pleasure of talking to Henry Winchester ’51 on multiple occasions. He entered the fraternity during the early days when they had just come back on campus in 1948. While talking to him and later when he did his DX biography he mentioned the […]

Bob Sielski ‘64: My Experience as a Runner

I was not always a runner. In high school, I was on the cross-country team in my freshman and sophomore years but didn’t make the cut for the varsity team. I didn’t get back to running until sometime in the early 1980s when I was in my early 40s. I had been a serious, although not competitive swimmer for most of my life, and had been swimming a mile or more for four or five days a week. I realized that I enjoyed swimming because I could swim well, but didn’t think much of running because I couldn’t run more than 100 yards or so, and was then exhausted. I decided to try and get in better shape for running, and then see what would happen.

Alumni Profile: Sheldon Wolberg, ’68

In the fall semester of 64, I met Warren Taniguchi ’66 in one of my engineering classes. He invited me to visit the Delta Chi house. The first time I went there I really liked the fraternity. It was a small, close-knit, and diverse group of people. Click “Read More” to see Sheldon’s full letter, and update.
Dr. Bob Cole’s Covid Perspective

Keith,
You have requested some comments regarding what Jo and I have been doing this past year of unprecedented chaos caused by the arrival of COVID-19 just over a year ago. Who could have guessed what all of our lives would be like during 2020?
I’m sure my experiences mirror those of most of my Delta Chi Alumni brothers. Shut downs, lock downs, mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing. These things are worth mentioning because they are protective and will most probably be required even after many of us get vaccinated against the COVID virus.

Update: Chapter House Projects

The Alumni Association of the Michigan Chapter of Delta Chi wants to say “Thank you” to those brothers who contributed more than $4,750 in 2020 to help fund the association’s projects at the chapter’s new fraternity house 1705 Hill Street. With your assistance, in this past year we were able to install new outdoor picnic tables. These tables have proven quite popular, as outdoor activities became both a priority and a necessity, because of the coronavirus pandemic. We also upgraded the house’s Wi-Fi System. This upgrade also was a must, as our active brothers were forced to move online for most of their classes.
