DX ANNUAL HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES 2019

The Annual Delta Chi Homecoming Reunion took place on the weekend of October 4th to the 6th. For this year’s reunion we had encouraged as many late 50s and 60s graduates as possible to attend, realizing it has become more difficult for us old-timers to travel. We had 27 alumni attend from those graduating years, including John Jenkins who graduated in 1957 and came all the way from Massachusetts. The active chapter was very considerate and vacated the entire parking lot for alumni use, even providing reserved parking places for those in need. We thank Eric Durudogan, the chapter “A” and Max Baron, The chapter “E” for their enthusiastic support.

This year’s DX Reunion coincided with the University of Michigan Homecoming weekend. Several alumni attended the football game at the Big House where the Wolverines scored a 10 to 3 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Our Friday evening pizza party was attended by more than 43 alumni from all graduating years as well as many actives who consumed 24 large pizzas from the Cottage Inn. Everyone enjoyed the multitude of photographs posted on the walls from years past. Also posted was the list of all officers from 1933 to the present. A list of winners over the years of the multiple annual awards some awarded annually and some isolated to a year or two. Many had names as the lead into the awards, but these have not been listed here in order to protect the individuals. These awards have included pledge of the year, Dork, Wedge, Luminary, Scholarship, Joke, Athlete, Guiding light, P.W., P&M, Grub, Gullibility, Got you on a technicality, Eat My Shorts, Red Snapper, I gotta get a date award, I don’t give a sh–, most likely to be arrested, house partier, best dressed, worst dressed, heart breaker, storyteller, nice guy, etc. These brought back many fond memories and the posting of awards given in years past provided ample discussion material.

The weather on Saturday in Ann Arbor provided a perfect autumn day for both a football game and a reunion. Those not attending the game watched the game at the chapter house on their big screen TV and was treated with sandwiches and drinks provided by the in-house chef, James Jelic. Many of the suites and bedrooms on the upper floors where the actives reside were cleaned and open for visitation. Several of the suites had commemorative plaques attached to honor those who had made significant donations to build the new chapter house. As we gathered after the game to reconnect with our classmates and exchange more stories from our good old college days, we enjoyed a sit-down dinner in the John Russell Dining Hall.

On Sunday we assembled a golf foursome at Leslie Park, it was another beautiful day for David Falconer, Dave Siglin, Roger Premo, and Frank Morrey to enjoy each other’s camaraderie on the links.

For next year’s reunion we plan on featuring the 70s graduates, we hope to have as many of those alumni to attend. Next year’s homecoming/reunion is October 24 versus Purdue, it’s not too late to start contacting your fellow classmates.
