Good News and More Good News on the New Chapter House

Here is the good news… 41 brothers have donated to the new chapter house project and the total stands at $602K. Thank you, thank you! But, we must raise $1 million by the end of September so the design can be completed and the additional $1.5 million loan can be secured. The opportunity… it’s time for the remaining 400 brothers to honor the commitment each of us made when we became an active to support Delta Chi through out our lifetime. Please answer your commitment and pledge your donation now.

More good news… donations of $10,000 or more will be tax deductible! Through the very diligent efforts of Dan Maher ’76, working with the Delta Chi Educational Foundation (DXEF) and the design team, we expect to receive final approval of the arrangement at the Foundation’s board meeting June 18th. We estimate the cost to the project of approximately $20K; however, tax deduction incentive should help get more donations sooner. We all owe Dan a sincere thank you for his leadership as it has been a difficult task.

It’s hard to believe the design team, lead by John Levinson ’73, has been working with the Ann Arbor planning groups since January to secure City Council approval of the site plan. We expected to have Planning Commission approval at their June meeting leading to City Council approval at their next meeting. Unfortunately, it will not happen then but we expect City approval by August. Importantly, there is a bit of flexibility in the schedule so the project remains on schedule for the May ’15 construction start. It’s amazing how long the approval process takes especially when the current design concept is very similar to that which was reviewed with the planners more than two years ago. All the brothers owe John and the Alpha design team a debt of gratitude for their perseverance and leadership.

As always I welcome your ideas, comments or concerns.
