Our Favorite Restaurants in Ann Arbor

States across the country have been taking proactive measures against Covid-19 and have began to shut down all non-essential stores, including restaurants. This is all in an effort to promote social distancing. While we may be cooped up at home it’s the perfect time to look back on our days as a Michigan Delta Chi. Recently we asked several Brothers to tell us about their favorite restaurant or bar in Ann Arbor.

“My favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor – Metzger’s German Restaurant is now located on Zeeb Road west of Ann Arbor but for many years was a staple for German cuisine on Washington St. downtown Ann Arbor. After a brief closure it was reopened by some of the family members and still has all the beer mugs, family crests, wooden clocks and memorabilia it ever had. The food is marvelous with out-of-the-ordinary dishes served on Sundays. I never miss going to Metzger’s during my visits to Ann Arbor, quite frequently with Al Knaus.”

“For the past few years I’ve been going to Knight’s Steakhouse (on Dexter Ave) for my birthday and it seems to be a hit with all who join me. Their steaks and seafood are very high quality and they have an outstanding kitchen who prepares the food exactly as you want it. As a bonus (or maybe the main reason we keep going back), they’re known for their heavy handed pour, so much so that when I ask for a double gin and tonic they make sure I know what I’m getting myself into, aka only a spritz of tonic. The wooden paneling and low lighting provide a very cozy, but welcoming, ambiance that is only added to by their friendly waitstaff. This will continue to be a staple in my Ann Arbor culinary travels for years to come.”

“The Blue Llama Jazz Club recently opened on Main Street, replacing the disappointing and crass Rush Street. You know it’s going to be a great evening when you walk up to the club and are greeted by a crisply-designed facade with the name, “Blue Llama”, in shimmering, blue lettering hovering over the entrance and jazz music pouring out over the speakers. And it’s definitely doesn’t sound like someone is playing their iPhone on maximum volume. This is high-quality sound, and it’s a sign of great things to come. When you enter, the curvy, marble bar is worthy of a second glance, the ceiling makes you think you are looking at the night sky and the acoustics are perfected for the live band that’s on-stage. The tapas-style food is delicious but pricey, so expect to leave with a lighter wallet. Some of the dishes will take you out of your comfort zone, and the chef will start it all off with a small surprise at the start of your meal (I won’t spoil it). They have live music Wednesday through Saturday evening and during Sunday brunch, so bring that special someone and show off one of Ann Arbor’s new gems.”
