“Bearded Scott” Hillen ’97: He’s a Walking DX History Lesson

Want to know something about Delta Chi at Michigan? Brother “Bearded Scott” Hillen ’97 is your guy. A former “C,” Scott took on the task — as an undergraduate — to publish the history of our chapter since its start. That gift, alone, is one that DX will treasure for many generations. Today, Scott works in Ann Arbor the manager of technical operations supporting several of national parks. His recollections of his DX days are vast and give us all an authentic trip down memory lane. “The thing that makes me the proudest about being a member of Delta Chi is that it truly is a brotherhood of a lifetime. We have roots on campus going all the way back to 1892, and the amount of time most brothers are active in the chapter is only a few years. Yet, those experiences of that short time frame have a commonality and resonance that extend far beyond just that short window in time in everyone’s lives.” Click below to read Scott’s story in his own words.
Jordan LaFave ’11: Friends for Life

As a recent grad and member of Delta Chi Michigan, Brother Jordan LaFave ’11, has many fond memories, as you would expect. His driving message is one of a strong brotherhood that cannot be broken. “Don’t just remember me. Fifty years from now you should give me a call so we can meet up for a drink!” Click below to hear Brother LaFave’s story in his own words.
Are You 1 of Our 475?

The house is “out of the ground.” The main floor should be set in place this week. This image shows the new house from Hill Street. Despite the progress, the campaign is $144K short of the revised goal of $1.1 million. To the 136 brothers who have donated, THANK YOU! When will the remaining 475 brothers choose to join the campaign? Your donation would help finish the campaign. Isn’t it time for you to do your part for future Michigan Delta Chis? It’s a Beautiful Thing!

We are excited to share this image with you. As you can see, the foundation of the new chapter house is taking shape. The walls were poured earlier this month, and the waterproofing and back filling should be completed by the end of this month. It’s something worth seeing when you return next weekend for our 2015 Fall Reunion and 125th Anniversary Celebration. Get more construction details below.

Matt Williams ’06: Stay to the End (and Don’t Post Dumb Pictures)

As a former DX chapter president, Brother Matt Williams ’06 has acquired some valuable wisdom in his short 12 years since helping to found the new DX colony in 2003. #1: Stay to the end. One of his fondest memories is the Michigan-Michigan State game of 2004 where Michigan came back from 17 points down in the fourth quarter. He and his DX brothers decided to stay, and they are so glad they did. #2: Currently the deputy communications director for a U.S. senator, he has this to say: “Don’t post dumb pictures on your social media accounts — people will find them.” Click below to read more from this new dad.
Goodbye to the Venerable Old House

The construction project is in full swing now … the site is prepared for construction with fencing, office trailer, temporary electricity, and porta-john. The garage is being rehabbed for material storage and future use as a bicycle shed. On Tuesday, June 30, the house demolition started at 10:00 a.m. in the morning and by 1:15 p.m., the house was in rubble, piled in the basement. The site contractor for excavation, foundation, storm water and other utilities should have started July 6. This will be the beginning of new construction for the chapter house and the beginning of a new era for Delta Chi at Michigan! Thanks to all who have made this possible.
We Are Building a New House
On May 9,our venerable 109-year-old house saw 43 brothers and 13 guests gather on the front lawn for the new chapter house groundbreaking ceremonies. This event marked the start of the Michigan Chapter’s third chapter house. We have raised 93% of the required $1 million thanks to the generosity of 135 brothers. Demolition work has been delayed due to the need to abate unexpected asbestos-containing plaster; we will keep you updated. Please plan on coming to the Reunion on September 26, 2015, to see the progress on the new chapter house and renew the Bond. Click below for photos and to make your own pledge today.
Closing the Gap

Groundbreaking for the new house is set for May 9th with the demolition of the venerable old house set for the following week. To those of you who have not yet participated with your financial support: For $1 a day, you can help close the gap and help the campaign reach its $1M goal. Click below to read more.
