Spotlight on Brother F. William (Bill) Thewalt ’58

Alumni Spotlight: F. William (Bill) Thewalt
We recently caught up with F. William (Bill) Thewalt, ’58 for an alumni spotlight he reflected on his time at Delta Chi. Here’s what he had to say:
I grew up on the east side of Detroit. I graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1953. I began at the University of Michigan in September, 1953. My first roommate was Larry Smart ’55 from the Soo. Larry pledged Delta Chi that fall. I waited until the spring semester to rush. Nearing the end of rush I was undecided to pledge Delta Chi or another fraternity. Larry used the opportunity of being a roommate to extol the advantages of Delta Chi and so I ended up pledging the last day of the rush period.
Wolverines vs. Hawkeyes Outing

Go Blue!
Brothers and Friends,
Gather your Maize and Blue, Delta Chi has been able to secure a block of eight (8) tickets in a group for the Michigan Wolverines vs. Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, October 5, 2019. These will be offered on a first come first serve basis and will be FACE VALUE. The Ticket Department has not yet provided the actual cost per ticket but I would suggest that it will likely be around $100 per ticket. PRICELESS if we go on to be Big Ten Champs or greater!!
Delta Chi Wins Sheepskin on the Hoof

During the fundraising campaign, I had the pleasure of talking to Henry Winchester ’51 on multiple occasions. He entered the fraternity during the early days when they had just come back on campus in 1948. While talking to him and later when he did his DX biography he mentioned the delivery of a live lamb to the Michigan DX from the Ohio State DX to pay a wager the two Chapters had made on the 1950 football game.
Motorcycle Burial at Michigan DX

During the fundraising effort we came across many stories. One story of note was the burial ceremony of a motorcycle on the grounds of Delta Chi in 1981.
Volunteer with DX

Your Fraternity Needs You…
The Delta Chi alumni association is looking for volunteers to donate a little of their time to continue to reinforce the bonds of brotherhood among the alumni group. We have over 700 alumni of the Michigan Chapter and almost 200 of them have graduated since 2010.
DX President’s Report 2019

Read a letter from Eric Durudogan, president of DX, and explore his experience at the chapter so far.
Everyone’s got a story…

We are soliciting topics, anecdotes or interesting tales and stories (partial or complete) that our Michigan Delta Chi brothers would appreciate to publish in forthcoming publications. Also members who might like to be featured in our Alumni Spotlights for future eDelts publications. If interested, please get in touch with Frank Morrey at (719) 684-6380 or […]

Delta Chi Memories February 8, 2019
As I write this it is my 73rd birthday. I woke up to Happy Birthday wishes from Al Kanus ‘68, my Delta Chi big brother, and John Hasse ‘66, my best friend from my Delta Chi college days. Perhaps that’s tells you all you have to know about my fraternity experience. But there is a lot more.
